Work Based Learning Providers have opportunities across the City. They can put you in touch with other organisations in the City. Riverside has produced this leaflet to encourage young people to make the best choices and find the support they need to succeed in their chosen careers. We offer Entry to Employment (e2e) courses and Apprenticeships in Early Years work. We can help young people to start a career in Childcare including jobs in nurseries, schools or as a nanny. Work Based Learning leads to Qualifications and Jobs Work Based Learning qualifications offer young people practical and flexible courses leading into good jobs and careers. Courses can last up to two years, with time for young people to work at their own pace. They often start off with a training provider and progress into real work experience and paid employment. No previous qualifications are needed to take part in some of the courses on offer. How Work Based Learning Courses compare to GCSEs, A-Levels and BTECs Young people always have the chance to get essential qualifications. Occupational qualifications and Apprenticeships are as valuable as GCSEs and A-Levels as the table below shows – and they can be gained in settings outside of school. ALL routes can lead to….Jobs….University ….Successful Careers for Life Occupational/ Level School Apprenticeships Level 1 GCSE grade D-E NVQ Level 1 Level 2 5 GCSEs Grade A*-C Apprenticeship, Level 2 Level 3 2 A-Levels Advanced Apprenticeship, Level 2 Work Based Learning Courses are: Entry to Employment (‘e2e’) is for 16 -18 year olds to prepare for work. Young people can join at any time and their study will be tailored to their needs. With anything from 16 to 40 hours a week on the programme, young people learn key skills (English and Maths), vocational, personal and social development and get to experience the workplace. Apprenticeships combine employment with training towards NVQ qualifications. Young people are based with an employer, gaining experience and earning money. Apprenticeships are advertised through employers and work based learning providers. Work Based Learning . . . Pays Money Young people on Work Based Learning courses may be able to access funding: • The Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is worth up to £30 a week (this does not affect any benefits the household may receive) • Care to Learn provides childcare costs for young mothers (and sometimes fathers] • Travel pass (if eligible) • Employed Apprentices earn from £80 per week Work Based Learning: Start Today Riverside and YJET hold an up to date list of work based learning opportunities in the local area.
